TII publishes Road Safety Improvement Scheme Programme Activity Report 2025

Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) has published its Road Safety Improvement Scheme Programme Activity Report 2025, setting out how road safety risks are identified, prioritised and addressed across Ireland’s National Roads network.

TII invests an average of €26 million each year through the Road Safety Improvement Scheme programme. In 2025, more than 210 safety improvement schemes were advanced nationwide, with over 80 schemes at construction and closeout stages. These schemes address a wide range of risks on the network, including junction safety, roadside hazards, speed management and facilities for vulnerable road users.

The report brings together policy context, data-led analysis and programme delivery to show how road safety priorities move from evidence and assessment through to funded schemes and local improvements. It provides a snapshot on how public investment is directed to areas of highest risk and how safety outcomes are delivered in strong partnership and collaboration with all 31 Local Authorities.

Developed by TII’s Road Safety team in collaboration with Regional Road Safety Engineers, the report reflects programme activity during 2025 and demonstrates how collision analysis, road safety inspections and the Network-Wide Road Safety Assessment are used to prioritise investment in line with the EU Road Infrastructure Safety Management Directive.

The Road Safety Improvement Scheme Programme supports TII’s Safety Goal in its Statement of Strategy 2026–2030 and contributes to Ireland’s Road Safety Strategy 2021–2030, which aims to halve road deaths and serious injuries by 2030 and move towards Vision Zero by 2050.

The Programme Activity Report will be available at the 2026 Safer Roads - Road Safety Conference in Killarney, Co Kerry, on 11 to 12 March, where members of the TII Road Safety team will be present to discuss the report and the programme’s approach to delivering safer national roads.
