Pay a Toll
There are a number of options for paying toll charges in Ireland.
Barrier Operated Toll Plazas
All toll roads in Ireland, except for the M50 in Dublin, use barrier-operated toll plazas. Payment options at these plazas include:
- Manual lanes with an attendant who will take payment by cash or card
- Automatic coin machine lanes/ contactless card lanes
- Electronic toll tag lanes
Barrier Free: M50
The M50 motorway around Dublin does not have a plaza. The eFlow Barrier-Free toll system between Junction 6 and Junction 7 records trips by photographing a vehicle's licence plate number. Drivers without an electronic toll tag or eFlow video account must pay for their journey before 8pm the following day to avoid late payment penalties. Payment options include:
- Online at www.eflow.ie
- Calling 0818 50 10 50 / +353 1 461 0122 to pay by card
- Paying in any Payzone branded outlets nationwide
- Registered customers can use their electronic toll tag or eFlow video account
Electronic Toll Tags
Electronic tags allow motorists to use all lanes, meaning they do not have to stop and pay manually. This saves time and avoids the need to carry cash when travelling on toll roads. Visit the eToll website for further impartial information.
Penalties for not paying M50 toll fees
- M50 toll payments must be made before 8pm the day after you have travelled. If you miss this deadline, an additional late payment penalty will be applied to the journey. A ‘First Penalty Notice’ will be issued to the registered vehicle owner’s address.
- If payment is not made for the original toll and late payment penalty within 14 days, a further fine will be incurred, and a letter called an ‘Unpaid Toll Notice’ will be issued.
- Should payment for the journey and late payment penalties remain outstanding 72 days later, a further late payment penalty is applied. The journey is also passed to eFlow’s solicitors, Pierse Fitzgibbon Solicitors, for collection.
- All motorists who are liable to pay toll fees and who fail, neglect, or refuse to pay them are guilty of an offence. They are liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding €5,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months, or both.
