Metrolink

MetroLink is the proposed high-capacity, high-frequency rail line running from Swords to Charlemont, linking Dublin Airport, Irish Rail, DART, Dublin Bus and Luas services, creating fully integrated public transport in the Greater Dublin Area.

As well as linking major transport hubs, MetroLink will connect key destinations including Ballymun, the Mater Hospital, the Rotunda Hospital, Dublin City University and Trinity College Dublin. Much of the 19 kilometre route will run underground, an exciting innovation for Irish public transport.

MetroLink will carry up to 50 million passengers annually, cutting journey times from Swords to the city centre to 25 minutes. It will change the way we travel – and how we live.

Infographic titled Metrolink Key Facts summarises Ireland’s upcoming Metrolink project. It highlights connections between Dublin Airport, Iarnród Éireann, DART, Luas, and BusConnects. The system will serve 20,000 passengers per direction per hour and up to 50 million annually. The 19 km route connects Swords, Dublin Airport, the city centre, and Charlemont, with travel times of 20 minutes from the city centre to the airport and 25 minutes to Swords. It will include 3,000 car spaces at Estuary Park & Ride, create 4,000 construction jobs, and help meet climate targets. The metro will feature trains over 60 metres long, 15 new stations, and 30 trains per hour in each direction. Passenger services are expected to begin in 2027.
